Class A CDL Yard Hostler – $27/Hour | Full-Time

Location: City of Commerce, CA
Job Type: Full-Time TEMP TILL DECEMBER
Pay: $27.00 per hour to start
Schedule: 40 hours per week
Start Date: ASAP

We are currently hiring two experienced Class A CDL Yard Hostlers for a busy operation in the City of Commerce. This is a great opportunity for a dependable driver with strong backing skills who is looking for a consistent overnight schedule with the potential for overtime.

Available Schedules

Schedule 1

• Saturday & Sunday off
• Monday–Friday
• 12:00 AM (Midnight) – 8:30 AM

Schedule 2

• Monday & Tuesday off
• Wednesday–Sunday
• 12:00 AM (Midnight) – 8:30 AM

Pay & Overtime

• $27.00/hour starting pay
• Overtime paid after 8 hours in a workday, when applicable
• Daily overtime opportunities may become available when there are call-offs or late arrivals
• Weekly overtime is more commonly available when working a 6th day

Job Responsibilities

• Operate a yard hostler to safely move trailers throughout the yard
• Perform yard switches and position trailers for loading/unloading
• Back trailers into dock doors, including blindside backing
• Shuttle trailers between two nearby yards, approximately 10 minutes apart
• Drive Class A equipment off-site for short yard-to-yard moves as needed
• Assist with general yard duties when necessary, including keeping the yard clean and organized
• Assist with minor yard-related tasks such as replacing or maintaining chalk/yard markings
• Use a tablet, Chromebook, or computer to operate the company's Yard Management (Y-Management) system
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment

Requirements

• Valid Class A CDL
• Minimum 1 year of Class A driving experience
• Previous yard hostler or yard-switching experience preferred
• Strong trailer backing skills required
• Must be comfortable with blindside backing
• Ability to safely maneuver trailers in a busy yard environment
• Basic computer, tablet, or Chromebook skills
• Ability to learn and use a Yard Management System
• Must be able to read, write, and understand English
• Reliable attendance and punctuality
• Willingness to assist with general yard duties when needed

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a dependable, safety-minded Class A CDL driver who is comfortable working overnight hours and has strong trailer control and backing skills. The ideal candidate is flexible, works well independently, and is willing to assist with additional yard responsibilities when needed.

Immediate availability is highly preferred.
